Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion 2021-22
Despite a three-match losing streak, Brighton & Hove Albion have managed to maintain their status as the team in the bottom half of the Premier League table. In fact, they have won one game and drawn three in the last six months, and they are currently sitting in 11th. However, they have also scored a number of key goals when they needed them.
It was a good first-half display for Brighton, who were able to get a few shots on target. However, it was their midfield that stood out, as they showed their mettle against Chelsea’s midfield, as well as their goalkeeping.
In the opening 15 minutes, Chelsea managed to create a few opportunities, but they were unable to break through three-quarters of the pitch. They did manage to find a goal though. In the 28th minute, Romelu Lukaku beat Brighton keeper Neil Maupay to score a goal.
Highlights from the game
Despite scoring a goal in the first half, Chelsea were outclassed by Brighton & Hove Albion in a 4-1 defeat. A superb performance by Eden Hazard was not enough to help the Blues pick up a vital three points, allowing the Seagulls to go up to seventh in the league table.
However, the game was a close call. The champions were missing Alvaro Morata, Courtois and Pedro. In terms of the stats, Chelsea’s only real threat came in the final third. A slick pass from Charly Musonda lofted a perfect pass for Victor Moses. The midfielder made no mistake on the rebound.
It’s hard to fault Brighton’s display. The visitors enjoyed a great deal of possession, putting their rivals on the back foot. Despite their success in the opening period, Brighton were only able to muster one shot on target.
Results from the Under-23s match
Result: Chelsea under-23s defeated Brighton & Hove Albion under-23s by 4-1. The home side lost their first game of the season, while Brighton went one better, winning a tough game against Chelsea. Despite the win, Chelsea remain in seventh place, eight points behind Manchester City.
Brighton went in at the break with a two-goal advantage. A good free-kick by Joe Anderson was turned into the back of the net by Rhys Hughes. But it was not until the 74th minute that Albion grabbed their second. A free-kick from deep was tapped into the net by Hughes. The goal made the scoreline 2-1.
Brighton were the first team to make an impact in the second half, with Roberto De Zerbi’s men scoring a fastfire second. In the end, they moved up to seventh in the standings. The goal was a result of a series of intricate moves.
Leandro Trossard’s performance
During his time at Brighton & Hove Albion, Leandro Trossard has proven to be a key player for the club, contributing to their attacking play this season. His form has led to speculation that he could join Chelsea.
Trossard joined Brighton and Hove Albion from KRC Genk for a fee of PS15 million in the summer of 2019. He is currently playing as a striker for the club, and has scored five goals in four matches.
Trossard’s contract at Brighton is set to expire in the summer, and Brighton are hoping to tie him to a new deal that would give him more money. A cut-price deal in the January transfer window could be possible.
The Belgian forward has a huge admirer in former manager Graham Potter, and the pair have previously worked together. A move to Chelsea would see Trossard follow in the footsteps of Potter, and it’s clear that Chelsea are looking to add to their squad in the upcoming transfer window.
‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants
‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants were heard at Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium on Saturday evening. Former manager Graham Potter was back in charge of the Seagulls for the first time since leaving Chelsea in September. He led the club to eighth place last season, which was a better position than his old team.
The former manager suffered a first half nightmare. He was on the receiving end of two huge saves by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez. He also had to get his feet off the ground after Leandro Trossard’s dreadful pass found Kaoru Mitoma, who was in the right place at the right time.
Despite a good start, Chelsea lost their unbeaten run in the Premier League to Brighton. The Blues are now in fifth place, eight points adrift of Manchester City, who they play in the final game of the season.
